The reason for writing this note is necessiated by the fact that i changed my job and had to move from Bangalore to Chennai.
Happy I was by the fact that the new job bought me back to my hometown but I did not foresee that a bigger challenge lay ahead of me, that of finding a school of good repute for my two sons. They are currently in Bangalore but would move back to Chennai at the conclusion of the current academic year. I have knocked around several schools in Chennai with the hope that some good Samaritan would welcome me with open arms. Somewhere there is a slight ray of hope at the end of the dark tunnel whereas in some places the tunnel itself is not visible, leaving me with a few questions for which I seek answers:
Question1: I know for certain that there is something called a Right to Education Act. What does it mean for a Middle class white collared Indian like me. Does it entitle my children to education in good reputed schools and admission without having to run around from pillar to post. If it means nothing for me then does it benefit only those who are below a certain income level or a certain tribe/caste?
Question2: I am an Indian and a honest tax payer. Should I be punished for paying taxes and for being a law abiding citizen of the land. Can my being a holder of a valid PAN card not entitle my children to admission to a good school.
Question3: Seeing my visiting card gives a license to the school authorities the licence to ask for so high a so called capitation fee that it is simply beyond my reach. Then never again will I proudly furnish my visiting card.
Question 4: A School has 40 students/class, times 4 sections(min) times 10 classes, around 2000 students, cant they make a provision to take in 10 students per class, every year. These are the open seats not without management recommendations.
Question 5: Most Important and this point makes me want to forget that i belong to a certain community. My name is Karthik and I am not a SC/BC/MBC/OBC/ST. Sadly I belong to a forward community that is being punished to such an extent that there needs to be a FC quota-Forgotten Community Quota.
